Boseong Gun
Due to the Juam Multipurpose Dam, which started construction on October 17, 1984 in the valley between Daegwang-ri and Gusan-ri in Juam-myeon, Suncheon-si and started to fill since April 1990, a massive artificial lake over three cities or counties of Boseong, Suncheon and Hwasun was formed, and the lakeside scenery beautifully stretches in the surroundings. In particular, the lake is deep and wide near the steel arch bridge in a unique shape, and creates a stirring lakeside scenery. And therefore, it provides the best scenery on the Juamho Lake. And since it offers a unique charm in addition to the sea, it has become a new attraction for families and couples who seek tourist sites nearby.
Seo Jae-pil, born in the Ganae Village in Yongam-ri, Mundeok-myeon on January 7, 1864, learned the scenery and romance of a farming village. Since leading the Gapsin Reform in 1884 and accomplishing only for 3 days and failing, he sought asylum and became the first doctor in US as a Korean. In 1895, he returned to Korea and established the Tongnip Sinmun (Independence Newspaper), formed the independence society and led people's movements. After contributing his whole life for the independence and modernization of the home country, he died of disease in 1951 at the age 87, demoaning over the fate of Korea.
From the birthplace, Seo Jae-pil Memorial Park is divided by the shrine, an area with an actual sized model of Seoul Dongnimmun Gate and the sculpture park created in the setting of Juamho Lake.
