Illimsan Mountain, located between Ungchi-myeon and Hoecheon-myeon, has royal azalea colony in a field over 1 million pyeong and the Yongchu Valley, the source of Boseonggang River.
This mountain, accommodating two large vallies, has a wetland under the peak where the water splashes down along the rocks in a spectacular view of a dragon ascending to the sky. Japanese cedar trees planted between the valley gushes unique scent. In early May, the Illimsan Royal Azalea Festival is held in front of the royal azalea colony that dyes the entire mountain red. A knee-length mountain bamboo field on the mountain ridge located at around 1/5 height of the peak and the silver grass field near the peak create a spectacular view. The scenery from the summit is especially outstanding; to the Northwest, you can see from Sajasan and Honamjeongmaek stretching toward Jeamsan Mountain to Cheongwansan Mountain in Jangheung-gun and Mudeungsan Mountain in a distance, and at the bottom of the mountain to Southeast is a panoramic view of the coastal road from Yulpo Beach in Deungnyangman Bay to the coastline of Anyang-myeon, Jangheung-gun and Boseongman Bay area.
The mountain trails are relatively simple and most of them begin from Hanchi at the border between Hoecheon-myeon and Ungchi-myeon. The descending trail goes past Illimsa Temple toward the east through the green tea plantation, Hyeseong Bird Garden and Geumcheon Seochogyo Bridge. The hiking takes around 3 hours.
